ExL Events develops engaging, content-driven conferences and partnered events for dynamic industry audiences, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostic and contract research organizations; hospital networks; physicians; and communications and other entities. Behind our diverse event portfolio, our experienced team conducts extensive market research and targeted outreach. The results translate into innovative, high-quality events that facilitate the exchange of critical information between industry professionals and suppliers who support shared goals.

Our events are the preferred resource for important topical information and networking opportunities with a clear delineation between content and commercialism. Our mission is to bring allied industries together to discuss and strategize on key issues and challenges resulting in the implementation of new ideas, strategies, tactics and key learnings that facilitate the pursuit of their missions which in many cases is to help improve the lives of patients and improve outcomes.

Executive Team

Shari GelfandGeneral Manager


Shari Gelfand, General Manager of ExL Events, has more than 18 years of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare B2B conference marketing experience.

Shari leads the ExL Events team in developing and growing 80+ life science events a year and directly oversees marketing, production, sales, and operations of the organization. She is responsible for the strategic growth and branding of ExL Events signature portfolio, including the Digital Pharma Series, Trial Master File Series, CROWN, MASS, and many more.

Beginning her career at the Institute for International Research, Shari started out as a Marketing Assistant. Throughout the years, she excelled and quickly climbed the corporate ladder. With her innovation and marketing excellence, Shari helped grow and launch multimillion-dollar, record-breaking events for the company. She has managed the ExL Events marketing department to execute innovative marketing strategies focusing on programmatic, social media, delegate sales, and email marketing tactics.

When not at work, Shari enjoys spending time with her husband Bryan, and two children Abigail and Samantha.

Bryon MainStrategic Advisor


Bryon Main is the ExL Events’ Strategic Advisor. Bryon is enthusiastic, determined and a fierce negotiator who is constantly on the move. The best way to prompt him into action is to tell him that a problem needs a solution. Bryon’s loyalty to serve his customers and the pharmaceutical industry is the main reason he followed his entrepreneurial spirit to co-found ExL Events in September of 2004. Bryon’s knack for building relationships and forming unique partnerships is an inspiration to his colleagues. He thrives on finding new and innovative ways to build successful conferences for his clients and bring them to fruition.

Boasting more than 14 years of experience as a pharmaceutical industry conference expert, Bryon is responsible for overseeing ExL Events’ marketing, sales, and production operations and is heavily involved in the oversight of key conference brands for the company. Before starting ExL Events, Bryon got his professional start with the Institute of International Research where he oversaw the launch and development of key industry events such as the Pharmaceutical Marketing Congress, ePharma Summit, and MedEdCongress.

When he’s not advising ExL Events, Bryon spends time with his expanding family, loves to sport fish, and obsesses over the latest tech trends and toys.

Scott GrossmanManaging Director, Conference Production


Scott Grossman, Managing Director, Conference Production, has more than seven years of experience producing educational events for the Life Science, Healthcare and Native American communities. His conference career started at Native Nation Events where he launched many successful meetings, including the Native American Health Care Conference, the Native American Women Leaders Forum and the Native American 8A Conference.

Scott transitioned to ExL Events, where he has successfully developed conferences in the United States and Europe for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. Staying true to developing high-level educational programs, he puts the needs of conference attendees and sponsors first when creating and overseeing ExL’s growing portfolio of events.

Scott received his Bachelor of Science from Berkley College.

Caroline MercadoManaging Director, Meeting Planning and Coordination


Caroline Kamper Mercado heads the Meeting Planning and Coordination division handling all the meeting logistics at ExL Events. Caroline is responsible for the venue sourcing, site selection, contract negotiations and planning of all meetings as well as managing the support staff to the sales and production teams.

Originally from Arizona, Caroline moved to New York City in 2001 and graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a B.A. in Communications. While in her final semester she started an internship with the Institute for International Research, which led to a full-time position in a sales coordination role after graduation. After learning the conference business from the ground up, Caroline moved into the meeting planning department where she planned meetings and events across all the various business segments in the US and Internationally for seven years. Now at ExL Events, she enjoys the challenge of running a department and managing an ever-growing portfolio of events.

Caroline loves traveling, dining out and spending time with her husband and her French Bulldog, Harvey.

Jayson MercadoManaging Director, Digital


Jayson Mercado oversees all of the Digital Events at ExL, which include the global Digital Pharma series (East, West, Europe, and China), in addition to the Digital Marketing for Medical Devices series of conferences. In this role, Jayson secures and manages all sponsor and partner relationships; works closely on new topic generation, speaker recruitment and agenda development; and collaborates with internal and external teams on marketing initiatives that drive year-over-year growth for the events and the company as a whole. 

Born and raised in New York City, Jayson earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Boston University. He has managed industry events in the Pharma and Healthcare space for more than 12 years, including stints at the Institute for International Research (IIR) and Engel Publishing Partners (then publishers of the MedAdNews and R&D Directions magazines and, prior to joining ExL in 2006. He is part of the team that launched Digital Pharma in 2007 and has since helped grow the event from a 100-person inaugural event to the industry-leading event series it is today with well over 1,500 attendees worldwide each year. Jayson is passionate about leveraging his people skills and large network of contacts to help create beneficial partnerships for both ExL and our clients alike. 

Andrew SinetarManaging Director, Strategic Business Development


Andrew Sinetar, Managing Director, Strategic Business Development, has been involved in the conference industry for more than 14 years. Andrew began his conference career at the Institute for International Research (IIR). At IIR he started as a Business Development Manager, Sales Manager and finally as the Global Brand Strategy Manager for the Partnerships in Clinical Trials Conference.

As part of the Senior Management team at ExL Events, Andrew is responsible for identifying and developing new business development opportunities for the company. Andrew received his BBA from the University of Miami. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys traveling and spending time with his family in New Jersey.
