Colleagues, Coffee and Communications — A Roundup of the #ExLPRSummit Coverage
Thursday August 13th, 2015
When the 11th Annual Public Relations & Communications Summit took place in July, more than 150 PR and comm professionals joined ExL Pharma at Sanofi’s New Jersey headquarters to participate in one of our favorite conferences of the year. We love engaging with our audience and hearing their thoughts, and are excited to share coverage of the event through their eyes with you.
What Attendees Had to Say
- On the Makovsky Health blog, Group Vice President Rob Murphy discussed the importance of meaningful connections and value-added interactions. Murphy eloquently highlighted three compelling themes from the event: the growing importance of peer-to-peer patient and caregiver groups; the evolution of communication beyond a traditional, transactional model; and the convergence of social and traditional media. He closed by emphasizing the need to take a fresh approach to marketing.
- Kassie Wilner of Chaloner also shared her impressions of the event. Wilner’s top takeaways were the general industry move toward a more patient-centric mindset; the need for custom communication that can touch consumers on an individual, personal level; and the keys to generating “zombie-like” loyalty: transparency, relevance and brevity.
- Pharmaphorum’s Christian Gardner provided a vivid snapshot of the conference through a comprehensive review of numerous sessions, case studies, panel discussions, and the keynote presentation by Google’s Head of Health Industry, David Blair. Gardner’s accounting of the event makes you almost feel as if you were there in the audience, and leaves you thinking about how pharma will face the challenge of innovating products and messaging.
An Interview with Congressman Leonard Lance
Sanofi’s Voices on Policy featured an interview with Congressman Leonard Lance, who spoke on the first day of the conference. Lance, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, provided his perspective on what the biopharmaceutical sector can contribute in terms of improving health, economic growth, and job creation locally and nationally. He also discussed four major elements of the 21st Century Cures Act and the work done by the Congressional Rare Disease Caucus.
